Happy New Year!

From all of us here at Trout Valley Quail we hope you are all making time this season to get outdoors with your family and friends, hopefully to quail hunt Mississippi.

Winter on a farm is the best time of year to take stock in those things most important in your life. In our lives, there is nothing like time afield with loved ones to lay the year’s worries and concerns to rest for a couple of hours and take part in the Holy Economy of God’s creation. This is most readily available by any numbers of endeavors: gardening, fishing, hunting… farming.

As many of you know I farmed up to 2018. Then, at age 40, we made the difficult decision to stop a 150-year-old business and rent out the acreage to a trusted friend and neighbor.

To this date, it remains the most daunting and troubling decision our family has ever had to make. Thankfully, Trout Valley Quail was already established. Later, I took an opportunity to go into real estate sales with Oxford-Lafayette Realty, which I have been doing since.

This summer, I had an opportunity to move into a different role through Modern Woodmen of America as a Financial Representative. So, it has been an exciting last several months, to say the least. As the picture of what my future holds in helping individuals, families, and businesses protect what they have today, while getting on a plan that secures their future clicks into focus, one group of people I am passionate about helping is our farmers. I know that, for a multitude of reasons, nearly all of which are out of any one farmer’s control, they are in a dire situation right now. If there is any way, in my new role with Modern Woodmen, I can help, please don’t hesitate to reach out. I would love to work/brainstorm/plan towards any strategy that might help farmers meet these lean times on a more solid footing.

Also, because I know better than most, sometimes it helps to take a moment away from the stress and worry to do something simply fun, Trout Valley Quail, starting today (January 7th) and running until February 1st, we are offering a 15 percent discount to any farmer who books a hunt to quail hunt in Mississippi with us and presents a valid FSA number the day of the hunt (the hunt doesn’t have to be taken in January, just booked in January.).

This discount is for people who make their living and livelihood by owning/operating an actual farm. You might say it is “FFBF” (for farmers, by farmers).

We offer it as a show of appreciation for everything you all do and a recognition of the sacrifice and struggle the American Farmer makes to keep us clothed and fed.

Alongside that, I simply add a sincere and heartfelt thank you.

Here’s to a safe and profitable New Year,

Cal Trout
